By using the Reporting+ aggregation feature, your reports go from being a list of raw data to insights. You can track trends, comparisons, and performance summaries that inform decisions.
| Note: Only reports created from scratch within Reporting+ can be aggregated. |
How to Aggregate Data
Watch the Video:
Getting the Report Ready
As an example, we will aggregate the union contributions and total fringes for employees paid on any of our projects.
To start, create a report from scratch or open a saved report previously created from scratch.
To create a new report from scratch, click the + Create new report button in the top right corner of the Reporting+ dashboard:
Select a data source and click Continue to Report Builder. For our example, we will choose “C&C Payroll”:
Next, click Customize Report to assign any filters desired. In our example, we will look at all projects under our client called “Validation Major Client”:
You can also edit the columns that appear on the report by clicking the Columns tab and selecting or deselecting desired columns, and you can reorder them by clicking and dragging the button next to each column name.
Once all filters and column changes are set, click Refresh Preview in the bottom right corner:
Applying an Aggregate Function
With our filters and columns set, let’s apply an aggregator to view the sums for the “Union Contribution” and “Total Fringes” columns.
To apply an aggregator, hover over the name of a column on the “Columns” tab to show the Aggregate dropdown:
Select the desired aggregate function. Options include:
- Sum
- Count
- Count distinct
- Max
- Min
- Avg
For our example, we will select “Sum” for both “Total Fringes” and “Union Contribution”:
As soon as you select an option in the Aggregator dropdown, you will see an icon appear on the other columns:
This icon indicates that the columns will be used as a dimension to be grouped on. Our aggregation selections for “Union Contribution” and “Total Fringes” will now summarize across all other columns.
Once all aggregate functions are selected, click Refresh Preview in the bottom right corner to view the updated report:
| Note: The data preview shows a maximum of 1,000 records. Download the report to see more results. |
Our report has updated to show the Sum for “Union Contribution” and “Total Fringes” across our employees:
With an updated report, you have the following options:
Run Report: Will run the report in the background and notify you once it is ready for download, which will include the complete report results. You will be notified via email, and a notification will appear in your global notifications in the left-side menu:
Save Report: Saves the report to your Reporting+ dashboard to quickly run the report again. After clicking Save Report, you will name your report, add an optional description, and then click Save Report:
- Customize Report: Make additional changes to the filters, columns, or aggregators.
